SmartThings: App Shows Black Screen or Blank Page

If the SmartThings app displays a black screen, blank page, or gets stuck on a loading spinner when you open it or tap on a device, the issue is typically caused by the app cache or your Samsung account session.

Fixes to Try

1. Force Close and Clear Cache

  1. Close the SmartThings app completely (swipe it away from recent apps).
  2. Go to your phone’s Settings > Apps > SmartThings > Storage.
  3. Tap Clear Cache. Do not tap Clear Data, as this will remove your settings.
  4. Reopen the SmartThings app and wait 15–20 seconds for it to load.

2. Sign Out and Back In

If clearing the cache does not help, try signing out of your Samsung account in the SmartThings app and signing back in.

  1. Open the SmartThings app and tap the menu icon.
  2. Tap your account name and select Sign Out.
  3. Sign back in with the same Samsung account you used during setup.

3. Update the App

Make sure you are running the latest version of the SmartThings app. Go to the App Store (iPhone) or Google Play Store (Android) and check for updates.

4. Restart Your Phone

A simple phone restart can clear temporary glitches that affect app behaviour.

⚠️ Important: If you see a black screen on a Samsung TV when opening SmartThings, try power cycling the TV (unplug for 30 seconds). The built-in SmartThings hub on Samsung TVs can take a few minutes to initialize after a reboot.
