SmartThings: Connecting Alexa, Google Home, and Other Platforms
SmartThings works with all the major voice assistants and smart home platforms, so you can control your devices using voice commands or from other apps.
Amazon Alexa
- Open the Alexa app on your phone.
- Tap More > Skills & Games and search for “SmartThings.”
- Tap Enable, then sign in with your Samsung account to link SmartThings.
- Alexa will discover your SmartThings devices automatically.
- You can now say things like “Alexa, turn off the living room lights.”
Google Home
- Open the Google Home app on your phone.
- Tap the + icon and select Set up device > Works with Google.
- Search for SmartThings and sign in with your Samsung account.
- Your SmartThings devices will appear in the Google Home app.
- Control devices with “Hey Google, set the thermostat to 22 degrees.”
Apple Home (via Matter)
If you have Matter-compatible devices connected through SmartThings, you can share them to Apple Home using multi-admin. In the SmartThings app, open the Matter device’s settings and look for the option to generate a sharing code for Apple Home.
Samsung Bixby
If you have a Samsung phone or Samsung TV, Bixby is built in and automatically recognizes your SmartThings devices. Just say “Hi Bixby, turn on the kitchen lights.”
ℹ️ Tip: Voice assistants work best when you give your devices clear, unique names in SmartThings. Avoid generic names like “Light 1” and use descriptive names like “Kitchen Counter Light” instead.
