SmartThings: Inviting Family Members to Your Smart Home
You can give family members or housemates access to control your SmartThings devices without sharing your Samsung account. Each person gets their own access through the invitation system.
Master Account
Since your home was installed professionally by Digital Lifestyles, we retain access to the master account. Why, because it allows us the ability to gain remote access to aid in professional troubleshooting. If you elect out of this feature and take over main access control, you will be charged a call-out fee for any on-location support required.
How to Invite a Member
- Upon account setup with our technician, you should have received a picture of a QR code, which is used to invite others.
- Via QR code: Tap Use a QR Code and have the other person scan it with their phone’s camera.
- The invited person will receive a notification in their SmartThings app to accept the invitation.
What Members Can Do
- Control all devices in the shared location
- View device status and history
- Run scenes and automations
Requirements
- Each member needs their own Samsung account (free)
- Each member needs the SmartThings app installed on their phone
- Members are invited to specific locations, not to individual rooms or devices
Trouble Shooting
- If you have misplaced your original QR code to invite others to your home, you will need to submit a support ticket to Digital Lifestyles, including your home address, the name and email of the new user, and we will support adding the new user.
ℹ️ Tip: If a family member has a Samsung Galaxy phone, their presence can be used in location-based automations (like triggering a “Welcome Home” routine when anyone arrives).
