SmartThings: Setting Up Your Hub for the First Time
If you are a Digital Lifestyles customer, your SmartThings hub was configured during your installation. This article is here in case you need to set up a replacement hub, or if you want to understand how the initial setup works.
What You Need
- A SmartThings Hub (V3) or Aeotec Smart Home Hub
- An Ethernet cable (included with the hub)
- A power adapter (included with the hub)
- A smartphone with the SmartThings app installed
- A Samsung account (free to create)
- A working internet connection and router
Step-by-Step Setup
- Connect the hub to your router using the included Ethernet cable. Plug the power adapter into the hub and a wall outlet.
- Wait for the LED on the hub to begin flashing. A green/red alternating flash means it is ready to be paired.
- Open the SmartThings app on your phone. Tap the Devices tab, then tap the + icon and choose Add Device.
- Select the hub type (SmartThings or Aeotec) and follow the on-screen instructions.
- When prompted, enter the 6-character Welcome Code printed on the card included with your hub.
- Wait while the hub downloads any available firmware updates. Do not unplug the hub during this process.
- Once setup is complete, the LED will turn solid green, indicating the hub is online and connected.
