# SmartThings: What Devices and Brands Are Compatible?

## SmartThings is one of the most widely compatible smart home platforms available. It works with hundreds of brands and thousands of individual devices across multiple wireless protocols.

#### Supported Protocols

| **Protocol** | **Description** |
| --- | --- |
| Zigbee | Low-power mesh protocol used by many sensors, light bulbs, and switches. Popular brands include Philips Hue, IKEA, and Sengled. |
| Z-Wave | Mesh protocol popular for locks, garage door openers, and thermostats. Brands include Yale, Kwikset, Schlage, and Honeywell. NOTE: only for Smart Things Hub V3 or older, V4 does not support Z-Wave devices. |
| Wi-Fi | Direct connection to your home router. Used by smart plugs, cameras, and Samsung appliances. No hub required for Wi-Fi devices. |
| Matter | The newest cross-platform standard. Matter devices work across SmartThings, Alexa, Google Home, and Apple Home. |
| Thread | A low-power mesh network that works with Matter. The SmartThings and Aeotec hubs include a Thread Border Router. |
